Warcode on the App Store!

Hey everyone!

Warcode went live on the App Store yesterday as some of you may have noticed, and it’s been a huge success so far 🙂 Thanks everyone who have downloaded it and extra thanks to all who bought the full version.

The most frequent feedback we’re getting is 1) you want updated graphics and 2) there is still a bug with the game crashing after finishing a level, most likely only affecting iOS version 4.1. Also 3) you want the game to run on iPod touch, but unfortunately it doesn’t have an auto-focus camera and that makes the barcode scanning unusable :/

You’ll be happy to know we’re already planning for update 1.1 which will address both these points! Our graphical and interaction designer Mia has a bunch of ideas for refreshing the app’s interface and I have noticed a bunch of small bugs aside from the crashing that will be rectified. On the roadmap are also a greater assortment of warriors and equipment. Unfortunately I’ve caught the cold so I’m mostly lying around in bed making Fred Durst-like noises at the moment.

Our goal was to release a minimal viable product as early as possible and then iterate, and the version we have shipped works great for most people who are not still on an older version of the OS, so I’m happy about that! The feedback we have received from the launch has put us on a steady course and I really look forward to sharing the progress on the next version with you all!

I’m also stunned with the scores some people on the leaderboards are achieving, you guys are nuts.

Auf wiedersehen!

I have to say I was skeptical, but I really do like this app. I have been waiting for a barcode game on the iPhone for a while now and this one finally delivered. However, many of the barcodes I have scanned give me items that require the full game but the store is down. When will that be rectified?

Hi Devin! I’m happy that you like the app, there is a pretty big update coming in the next couple of weeks that I’m sure will make you like it even more 🙂 I’m aware of the problem with purchasing the full game and I have contacted Apple about it. I will update the blog when the issue is solved!

Hey Devin I think I’ve resolved it. It works on the devices I test on again anyway. The technical reasons for the problems are detailed in a new blog post. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

So why do you need auto focus for it to work? I can use all the other barcode scanners available on the ipod touch so why wouldn’t it work for this???

Hi Mike! We would love to support the iPod touch, could you mention one or two of the barcode scanning apps that work fine on it so I can check them out?

Just a bit curious since I’m about to start developing apps myself. To make warcode, did you use any game engine? Will it be available on android?

Hey softarn 🙂 Glad to hear you want to make iPhone games, it’s lots of fun. For Warcode I didn’t use any graphics framework, just regular UIKit. I did use the built-in Game Center APIs for leaderboards and multiplayer. But I’ve heard good things about Cocos2d for basic 2D games, I plan to play with that myself when I have the time.

No version for Android is planned right now.
